What will the new Fashion Museum deliver?

The new museum will be a dynamic social and civic space that is full of life. Welcoming to all, it will include new galleries, learning spaces and workshop areas as well as a shop and destination café.

The new museum will:

Include flexible exhibition spaces to display more of the collection than ever before.
Showcase a changing programme of exhibitions generated from our Collection and other major museums.
Reveal dedicated and accessible spaces for innovative learning and engagement including lectures, workshops, events, schools and residencies.
Provide shared and welcoming social spaces in the city centre – a ‘Museum on the High Street’ for all to enjoy and without barriers to attendance or participation.
Integrate communal café, bar and retail areas.
Offer commercial venue hire opportunities outside of core public hours.

What will the new Fashion Collection Archive deliver?

In partnership with Bath Spa University, the Collection will be stored in a purpose-built facility, co-located at the Locksbrook Creative Quarter, 20 minutes’ walk from the City Centre Museum. This facility will form part of a wider development to provide skills, education and innovation space to students and locals alike.

The Fashion Collection Archive will:

Store and preserve the Collection for future generations as an exemplar of contemporary museum storage and environmental sustainability.
Provide a place where the Collection is conserved and cared for, photographed, packed and prepared for loans out to major museums worldwide and for exhibitions and displays in the Fashion Museum in Bath city centre.
Include multi-disciplinary study, innovation and enterprise spaces for attracting visitors, researchers and students to access the collection.
Create a shared public space where local people can get to know, use and love one of the great civic assets in Bath and North East Somerset.
Be a vital resource welcoming 20,000 visitors per year with a focus on schools and communities.
